The vast universe of diving watchmaking is further enriched with the addition of a new member to the collaboration between Blancpain and Swatch. The Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms watch, known as OCEAN OF STORMS, joins the five watches and five oceans already present in this exceptional collection.

Although our planet is home to only five oceans, Swatch welcomes the OCEAN OF STORMS, taking inspiration from Blancpain's Fifty Fathoms. The OCEAN OF STORMS is inspired by the lunar sea called Oceanus Procellarum, located on the western edge of the Moon's near side. Translated from Latin as “Ocean of Storms“, this sea is the largest on the Moon, with over 2.500 kilometers on the north-south axis and a surface area of approximately 2 million square kilometers.

The Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms OCEAN OF STORMS comes in an elegant black, recalling the atmosphere of the new Moon, also known as the Black Moon. Despite its smaller size than the inspiring lunar sea, this watch retains the same characteristics as the other five watches in the collection: ARCTIC OCEAN, PACIFIC OCEAN, ATLANTIC OCEAN, INDIAN OCEAN and ANTARCTIC OCEAN.

The mechanical movement that gives life to OCEAN OF STORMS is signed by Swatch and is the well-known SISTEM51. This mechanical movement, made up of just 51 parts, including a central screw, is antimagnetic thanks to the Nivachron™ balance spring and offers a remarkable 90-hour power reserve. Introduced in 2013, the revolutionary SISTEM51 technology changed the landscape of automatic watches, highlighting its visible movement with the motto “the front tells the time, the back tells the story”.

Each watch in the collection is associated with a particular nudibranch, the Nudibranchia Okenia Luna, whose scientific name is imprinted on the digital print of the movement's rotor. This part allows the watch to wind automatically with the movement of the wrist, while the full moon of the Ocean of Storms is digitally imprinted on the oscillating weight.

OCEAN OF STORMS, like its predecessors, is water resistant up to 91 meters, a tribute to the name Fifty Fathoms, which historical maritime measurement corresponds to 91 meters or 300 feet in the Anglo-Saxon world.

Made of Bioceramic, a material patented by Swatch composed of two thirds of ceramic and one third of biological material derived from castor oil, the OCEAN OF STORMS promotes environmental sustainability. NATO straps are made from recycled material from fishing nets, underlining the commitment to ocean conservation.

Shared Blancpain Evocative phrases, such as “PASSION FOR DIVING – LICENSE TO EXPLORE – OCEAN BREATH – PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE” and “IMMERSE YOURSELF,” are engraved on the back of the watch.

Starting January 11, 2024, coinciding with the new Moon, the OCEAN OF STORMS will be available at selected Swatch Stores. In line with limited availability, shoppers will only be able to purchase one watch per person, per store and per day.
