Just over 10 years after its introduction, TUDOR presents the new Black Bay revisited in terms of aesthetics and equipped with a new manufacture caliber with METAS certification.

This year Tudor wanted to consolidate and improve the quality level of its watches. It is not for nothing that he presented the new Manufacture based in Le Locle during the days of Watches & Wonders, making people perceive the know-how that Tudor has internalized and therefore the change of pace with the past. Do you remember when the first ones Black Bay were they equipped with ETA calibres, albeit refined by Tudor? In just 10 years, the brand has managed to integrate the development and production of mechanical calibers with full control over the production of strategic components. A turning point, especially in terms of quality.

THE NEW BLACK BAY reference 7941A1A0RU

The latest version of the Black Bay, presented at the Geneva show, takes up the proportions of the original model, with a steel case still measuring 41 mm, but with a thinner middle case. Trying it on my wrist, I really appreciated the upgrade to the rotating bezel with a more pronounced groove to improve grip. The insert instead has slightly rounded numbers aligned with the contour of the outer ring. A beautiful work of harmonization and ergonomics which has also been the subject of the crown: redesigned and inspired by the crowns present on the historic Tudor and Rolex technical watches.

The black dial is inspired by Tudor diver's models produced in the 50s and features a lightly satin-brushed sunburst finish. The hour and minute hands are "Snowflake“, while the second hand has a new shape, defined as “Lollipop".

The new Black Bay it is also the third TUDOR model that can boast the prestigious METAS certification, which will be extended to the entire collection. This certification requires numerous modifications to be made to a TUDOR Manufacture Caliber and allows the Brand to attest to the quality of its watches through validation by an independent body.

The METAS CERTIFICATION

Certification Master Chronometer of the GOALS it is complete and concerns all the main functional characteristics of a watch, including precision, resistance to magnetic fields, water resistance and autonomy. The standards in question are incredibly high, starting with accuracy. Indeed, a watch is suitable where the variation in the daily rate falls within a range of five seconds (0 +5), i.e. five seconds less than the standards of the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) (-4 +6) in a single movement and a second less than the internal TUDOR standard, which applies to models of the brand equipped with an in-house caliber (-2 +4).

The certification also guarantees the precision of the watch subjected to magnetic fields with an intensity of 15.000 gauss, and that the waterproof capacity declared by the manufacturer complies with the ISO 22810:2010 standard of the International Organization for Standardization, which also applies to the autonomy of each Master Chronometer watch. The Swiss manufacturing must respect the criteria of the “Swiss Made” designation, while the movement must be certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Control (COSC).

THE MT5602U CALIBER

The Manufacture Caliber MT5602 U that powers the Black Bay, is equipped with a variable inertia balance with lifetime precision calibration, whose stability is guaranteed by a robust bridge that has two fixing points. Together with the antimagnetic, silicon hairspring, the regulating organ allows the Caliber Mt5602 U to function in a fully assembled watch within a range of five seconds (0 +5). The power reserve is 70 hours and is certified by METAS.
