A. Lange & Söhne presents two new versions of the award-winning mechanical digital watch in platinum and rose gold, the ZEITWERK. Thanks to the further evolved L043.6 caliber, this exceptional timepiece has a power reserve doubled to 72 hours and offers superior ease of use. The design has also been revisited, making the watch even more expressive. While the advancement of the large jumping digits appears as if by magic at a minute's pace, it is supported by powerful, precisely controlled mechanics with seven patents.

A. Lange & Söhne presented the first ZEITWERK in 2009, surprising the entire world of watchmaking with a revolutionary wristwatch, featuring large jumping digits for hours and minutes, as well as a tensioning mechanism as a pulse generator.

The ZEITWERK is equipped with a patented mechanism with three discs of the jumping digits: looking at it arouses emotions. The hours and minutes are displayed from left to right by large numbers with a height of 2,9 millimeters and a width of 2,3 millimeters. The harmonious arrangement on the arched hour bridge and the size of the markings ensure the best readability.

Furthermore, this aesthetically original and technically sophisticated display lends momentum and liveliness to the dial, as the mechanism underneath advances the three digit discs, one of which indicates the hours and the others the intervals of ten minutes and single minute in a fraction of a minute. according to. The most exciting part occurs when, at the full hour, all three discs of figures advance simultaneously. When you admire this precise choreography, the moment becomes an event.

Mechanical-digital: a contemporary complication

To create this elegant and innovative display, Lange's designers radically questioned the conventional principles and rules of precision watchmaking. This became necessary, as the challenge of fitting the mechanism into the limited size of a wristwatch, while generating enough power for synchronized shooting, was enormous. Some key data shows this significantly: for example, the hour ring with a diameter of 30,0 millimeters extends to the outer circumference of the movement. There are also two discs for ten-minute and single-minute intervals. Their diameters are respectively 19,0 and 12,7 millimeters. Both discs are separated by a height difference of only 0,2 millimeters, which requires extremely precise adjustment by the watchmaker.

If these challenges had already been intelligently solved in the first generation ZEITWERK movement, with the evolved L043.6 caliber the new generation takes another step forward. Thanks to the construction of a patented barrel with two winding springs, it was possible to double the power reserve from 36 to 72 hours. Or with other figures: after full charge, the ZEITWERK has enough energy for 4320 minute advancing jumps, or more precisely for 72 jumps of all three discs, 360 jumps with only two discs and 3888 jumps with one disc only.

Another innovation compared to the previous model is the ease of setting the time. A button at four o'clock allows you to advance the indication quickly and separately, which is particularly useful when changing the time zone during a trip, for example. The button works in reverse: while nothing happens when the button is pressed, the indication advances when the button is released.

The integration of an hour correction button, used for the first time in the ZEITWERK DATE, required a great deal of engineering effort. In fact, in order to be able to carry out the correction independently of the advancement processes of the hour indication, each time the button is pressed a patented vertical clutch decouples the hour ring from the mechanism of the jumping digits. The minute indication is, as always, adjustable in both directions via the crown at two o'clock.

The case of the new ZEITWERK has a diameter of 41,9 millimeters and a height of 12,2 millimeters and is available in two versions. It is available in rose gold with a black dial and natural nickel silver hour bridge. The platinum edition has a rhodium-plated solid silver dial. The bridge of the hour is black rhodium plated. The chromatically coordinated hands complete the harmonious design. The rose gold model has a black crocodile leather strap, while the platinum version comes with a dark brown crocodile leather strap.
