The good fortune of being able to live and tell our passion for watchmaking often offers us the opportunity to get to know and meet people who do not necessarily belong to the world of hands, but who share this passion of ours. A year after our virtual chat we met Eugene Amosfounder of Automobili Amos and father of the Lancia Delta Futurista, to talk about his first watch made in collaboration with Ressence and admire a part of his collection. Eugenio loves watches regardless of their value, they must know how to conquer it in the shapes, in the design and not "shout" their presence on the wrist. The result is a collection that is not at all obvious and that well reflects the personality of its owner.

Ressence x Amos Type 5X Cars

Let's start from the first adventure as a protagonist in the watchmaking sector for Eugenio Amos, or the birth of the first timepiece signed by Automobili Amos in collaboration with Ressence. The Type X5 in fact, it incorporates some of the characteristics of the Lancia Delta Futurista, introducing an 'unprecedented' function dedicated to supercharged engines. Thanks to the bezel mounted on the 46mm case, it's possible measure the engine warm-up (15 minutes) - the S stands for Start, the D of course for Drive and the R for Race - while the second part is for the turbo cooling (10 minutes). Dial and sub dials are clearly inspired by the elementsyou graphics of the Futurist, with touches of light gray, yellow and red. Produced in only 40 units, all sold out, the Type 5x is also equipped with a rubber support that allows you to carry the watch on the wrist side, making it easier to read while you are at the wheel.

Patek Philippe 'Nautilus', ref. 5712GR retailed by "Tiffany & Co."

For those who do not know him personally, Eugenio is a very spontaneous person and his collection somehow reflects this peculiarity of his. There is nothing studied or aimed at mere investment. And it is the case of this splendid one Patek Philippe Nautilus, reference 5712GR, which Eugenio decided to buy during his stay in the 'big apple' with his wife Margherita Missoni, in the historic Tiffany & Co. store on 5th Avenue. The white gold case and rose gold bezel, dark brown sunburst dial embellished with the writing "Tiffany & Co.”At 5 o'clock. In the auxiliary dials we find the power reserve, the combined moon phases and date display, as well as the small seconds. This watch was initially produced for the Hong Kong market in about 50 pieces, before being presented on a large scale in 2012 and going out of production in 2016.

'Bamford' Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 116520 X Eugenio Amos

This Daytona customized by Bamford Watch Department, is the "lucky charm”Of Eugenio during his car competitions. PVD treatment of case and bracelet, 'Paul Newman' dial with red details and “EA” engraving on the caseback. A watch that accompanied him over the course of two Paris - Dakar, three Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.. almost 35 km of races! The indication given by Eugene to Bamford was that it was of the same color as his McLaren P1 which had been made by the British manufacturer and which was the protagonist of one of the greatest heresies in the automotive sector: the car of the Woking house was spotted as it sped along the Fiorano track, the historic track of the "Prancing Horse", with no less than that Horacio Pagani!

Omega Speedmaster "Snoopy Award", ref. 145.00.31

Eugenio's favorite watch is the Omega Speedmaster “Snoopy Award”, a gift from his mother on the occasion of his high school diploma. The presence on the dial of the beloved Snoopy, in correspondence with the small seconds, is the detail that makes the already iconic Omega Speedmaster even more fascinating. This edition, presented by Omega in 2003 in elimited to 5441 copies, was created to commemorate the “Snoopy Award” awarded by NASA since 1968 to institutions and individuals who have proved particularly valuable for space missions. Omega had been NASA's official timekeeper since the 60s and played a truly pivotal role in one of the most famous life-and-death situations in human history.

When Apollo 13 malfunctioned, causing the trip to the moon to be disrupted, the astronauts on board first had to repair the aircraft - which had suffered an explosion - with material recovered on board, and then use the rockets to return. on earth. Without advanced computing they used their own Speedmaster chronographs and managed to successfully return to earth.

Rolex Explore II, ref. 16570 'Corn kernels'

In every enthusiast's collection there is always a watch that carves out a "special" place, where it is not the economic value or the complication that determines its specific weight, but the emotional one. This is the case of the Rolex Explorer II, ref. 16570, given to Eugenio by his father Hermann, who died prematurely when Eugenio was only 14 years old.

This Rolex Explorer II reference was presented by Rolex in 1989, replacing the "arrow" with some notable updates: Caliber 3185, the use of sapphire crystal and a new configuration of the white dial with "glasses". A peculiarity of Eugenio's watch is the coloring of the “toned” tritium indexes, which give the effect defined by collectors as “Corns of corn”.

Cartier Crash ref. 4127

One of the watches Eugenio is most enthusiastic about (how to blame him) is this splendid example of the Cartier maison, or the Cartier Crash. Asymmetrical design that is linked to the work of Dalì "Persistence of memory", is probably one of the most fascinating watches ever produced and 'hot reference' of the moment. Introduced in 1967 by Cartier London, the Cartier Crash has undergone several reinterpretations over the years. The reference of the model in Eugenio's collection is the 4127, presented by Cartier in 2019 in commemoration of the Cartier boutique on Bond Street in London. The hand-wound movement is the 8971MC, a derivation of the famous Jaeger LeCoultre caliber 846. Who wouldn't want this XNUMXth century icon in their collection?

Richard Mille RM 67-02 'Wayde van Niekerk'

Here we are at one of the coolest watches in Eugenio's collection. It is true, beyond the economic aspect, probably to get to this masterpiece of mechanics and technology it is necessary to have passed "various steps" to be able to fully appreciate it. The RM 67-02 was designed to be worn by Olympic athletes, in this case for the South African Olympic sprinter Wayde van Niekerk, therefore the factors that characterize it are lightness, comfort and resistance to shocks. The green case is made of Carobonio TPT and Quartz TPT and is only 7,8 mm thick, you will hardly find more comfortable and ergonomic watches. It is not difficult to imagine that also thanks to its weight of only 32 grams, Eugenio has decided to wear it in some car competitions ..
